Somewhat, but that increased pressure is offset by filling the mask with higher pressure air (usually out your nose), so it all equals out. Else your mask gets smashed to your face, and you come up with bloody eyes. (You see this happen to new divers occasionally, when they don't think to blow out of their nose a little bit.)

It doesn't hurt or cause long term damage (generally), it just looks scary.

Mask squeeze is super-easily prevented, but it still gets people who aren't paying attention from time to time.

My point was about the normal equalization process, though. There usually isn't a difference between mask fit at 5' and mask fit at 150'.

Leaking Mask

I SUFFER THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I FOR GET TO TRIM MY MUSTACHE. I REFUSE TO SHAVE IT OFF SO WHEN I WILL HAVE TO USE A REAL MASK. I NORMALLY USE A FULL FACE BUT WITH IT I HAVE TO SHAVE MY BEARD. IF YOU HAVE A MUSTACHE TRIM UNDER YOUR NOSE JUST A LITTLE AND THAT SHOULD HELP YOU IF YOUR MASK DOES FIT CORRECTLY.

Right. Your mask shouldn't be squashed against your face, either by the strap or by water pressure.

I have a mustache and as long as I trim a little strip right under my nose, I get no leaks. It is annoying when I forget, though.

Because of my mustache, I pretty much leak every dive. I just sorta got used to clearing my mask repeatedly during the dive.
