Spring Straps concern

I was thinking about putting some spring straps on my Apollo fins.

If I tighten my straps too tight, my toes get cramped in the foot pocket. My concern is that if I put spring straps on, they will cause my foot to go too far into the foot pocket. Before I mangle my fins, is this a concern with spring straps?

I am aware that you can get the type that can attach without cutting the posts off, but I was looking at the Apollo straps.

It isn't a problem if the straps are sized properly. They definately shouldn't make the fins "too tight". Unfortunately, I can't offer any useful information on how to find the right sized spring straps... I made my own.

Spring straps come in different sizes. You just need to get some that are not so small.

It is worth it. Spring straps help a lot when you need to put your fins on quickly I can put my fins on in the few seconds between waves, hard to do that with rubber straps and buckes.

put your foot in the pocket at the desired depth (with your boot on, if you wear one). measure around your heel from strap pin to strap pin. when sizing the springs, try to get the size that is about 1/2" shorter than the length you measure. longer and they may slip off, too short and it will be too tight.

For the apollo, you simply screw it in where the strap sits with the boot in, so as long as the size isn't grossly off, they have a fair bit of play when installing them.

I emailed ScubaToys with the fin I was looking to buy and told them I was going to wear a 6.5mm boot and shoe size. Joe made a reccomendation of XL fin with L spring.....Would you know when I got them, they fit absolutely perfect

This page has a measuring guide for their spring straps which may be useful.

Innovative Scuba Stainless Steel Spring Straps - EZ Model

Spring straps are definitely the way to go, however. Sizing is a pretty flexible thing, though... as long as they're not too long (and thus don't hold your foot in at all), they should fit well.

Thanks for the info. We've been looking at them but didn't know if they would be worth the money.
