If you don't like split fins, I'd go for a paddle fin like the ScubaPro Jet Fins. Or, if you like your friend's fins, get those. I'd go with the Mares Quattros over the Volo Powers, though.

I have used splits and jet fins. And something like 15 fins in between.

I don't like the "hinged" fins.

The Quatros are ageless (as are the Jets) but a little easier on the legs than Jets. Jet type fins do frog better and do all the alternate kicks better than the quatros or any split fin. Depends upon the diving you do I suppose.

Today, my favorite all around fin is the original USD Blades. Similar to the Quatros, but I feel a little lighter. No longer made. Can be had on EBAY for about 40 bucks.

My most used fin is the Atomic Smokes. They are splits, but positively buoyant which I like. I prefer the Bio Fins over tha Atomics all around, but they are negative.

I am waiting to try the SP Jet Sport.

Oh. And split fins move you efficently flat out. It may feel like they don't, but they do. That's the idea.

I like them in currents.

In my world, these rule.

Splits #2. The GARA's can be a pain on deck.

I'll throw in a kudos for the Quattros... just put in my order for the Piranha spring straps that Compudude suggested to finish them off.

Another for the quattros, i have the zoom split fins for my drysuit (which is pretty well all i use here in canada) but when im down south and in a wet suit i use the quattros, very nice fin, even though id rather have a split the mares did just fine. Also check out the jet fins like compudude has mentioned, ive heard nothing but good things about them and are going to give them a go once the fall comes around

Note re Jet fins: The flutter kick is not their strong suit. The frog kick is the most efficient kick with them... not to mention the most efficient kick in general, but that's another discussion.

My favorite fins are now the ones that can do frog kicks on them of going forward and backwards. Once I put on those, I couldn't go back to split. Wish my hollis fin would come home now!

I've been a big fan of Mares Avantis/Quattros for years, and I've always used Jetfins (or the very similar Turtles) for drysuit diving. I recently gave away my old Mares fins, and I'm going to be selling the Turtles. I've fallen in love with the Hollis F1s, and find that they offer everything I like about both of those fins, plus they look better than either of them, and have a spring strap that can be adjusted to fit wet or dry boots.
