Why I hate my snorkel

Greetings,

I was just thinking about how much I hate my snorkel. This past weekend I realized why. The thing weighs 200g (~7 oz.). It is built like a tank and has last me for 8 years. I've had people drop a tank on it and it survived.

Checking out ads for snorkels, no one mentions how much the things weigh. Even going to a random manufacturer's website (Sherwood) I couldn't find anything about how much their snorkels weigh.

I think weight should be a selling feature. I also wonder how many people, who don't use a snorkel, would use one if it had almost no weight.

I think a bigger issue is drag. I would much rather a heavier snorkel with less drag or maybe portability then weight saving.
However I hate snorkels on scuba

I like the foldable snorkel I bought, and it stays right there in my BCD pocket.

You hate your snorkel, but you kept using it for eight years?

Not properly. It gets stuck in my BCD pocket or sometimes doesn't even make it out of the dive bag.

I just started using it again. I'm working towards DM and my instructor insists I set a good example.

I had my snorkel custom made from 4140 stainless. A little heavy, yes, but I dropped another 3 lbs of lead off my belt. My trim has always seemed a little "feet heavy" too, and the snorkel fixed that right up.
