mask question. a little help guys?

It seems that over night (well a week) the "smile" lines in in my face are giving me trouble with my masks. I am not ready for collagen, but man I am close. All of a sudden my Atomic Frameless and Scubapro Scout are leaking at the lines. The Scout is almost brand new, so I know it is not the masks.

I have an old SporaSub freedive mask which I carry when I need a backup, but have not tried that yet.

I am wondering about the Mares liquid skin masks. Could that material help with the "smile" line problem?

In any event, thoughts?

Anyone familiar with this? Just found it.

Hard to say, masks are kinda personal as to what works best for whom. I've got the liquidskin and never use it anymore. I really liked it for the first 30-40 dives in warmer water. When it started to get cold it leaked badly. I haven't used it for a while. I've been using a Tilos frameless, and it works great, rarely leaks, great field of view. I find it as comfortable and just keep the liquidseal as a backup. You should try borrowing masks to see what you like before you buy.

Jack
(the liquidskin is a good, comfy mask, but at $90 it was very overpriced, IMO)

Forgot to add, when the smile lines are causing leaks, I've had good luck most time by 'smoothing' them out with my hands by spreading the skin gently apart using my thumb and index fingers while pulling slightly down. YMMV

Tried that too. No luck. LOL. User error?

God is punishing me I think.

That is god's way of teaching lessons not punishing So you learn how to fix an error in whatever your doing, in this case though, I can't think that he would not want you to smile and have smile lines

Might try Vaseline or some type of petroleum jelly to create a seal. The old time swimmers of the English Channel used to use it. Of course, they were rubbing their entire bodies with the stuff for warmth as well.

might work, just thinking out loud.

cheers

I have the same problem, I have tried 5 different masks, and all have leaked. I just recently bought a mid Atomic Frameless and hoping it may help. I haven't had a chance to try it out as of yet. It seemed to seal fine in the Dive Shop. I even tried it while putting a regulator in my mouth. I will try it Sunday at the Aquarium I volunteer at.

One more thing, I even tried some mask sealent I bought at American Pro dive shop in Crystal River, FL. It looked kind of like a small glue stick. Don't waste your money on it, it didn't work at all, and was very messy.
