Atomic Ultraclear Frameless disappointment.

Finally got a chance to try out my new Atomic Ultraclear frameless while snorkeling at my parents house... only to discover that it is apparently too narrow for my face! As soon as I get my whole face under water I can hear it slowly bubbling in! No leaks from under my nose with this one though.

Anyway, I guess I'll be sending it back to ST
Luckily I managed to test it before a month was up!

Sorry to hear that, but this is the perfect example of why you shouldn't buy a mask that you haven't tried on.

Ah, but did try it on prior to ordering it - which is why it is so disappointing.

Where did you try it on?

Are you sure you got the right size Atomic mask? They make two sizes ... regular and medium fit.

+1 on size - for me even the larger size would not fit properly went with the TUSA Visualator Mask reviews and discounts, Tusa nice mask.

Its too bad I really wanted a AUC as well.

I tried it on at a dive shop near work... fit well and sealed nicely, much like this one does on the surface. The inner skirt just is a little too short, and doesn't seal at the edges near my eyes. If I press it on hard, it will seal, but when under water if I move it leaks. Needs to be about 1/4" wider and it would be perfect.

I'm not 100% sure it is the right size - I ordered it when ST had several "used" models for sale. This one arrived with stickers still on the lens, and tags on the strap. I didn't see anything to indicate a size.

I really like the low volume mask, and the field of view was great even in the murky lake water.

EDIT to add: Unfortunately I have vowed to never again set foot in the shop where I tested the mask out... or I would simply go in and make sure the sizes match up. Owner/salesman was very pushy, bashed my instructor and my instructors shop, and tried to talk me into equipment WAY out of my price range while bashing the stuff I had already decided on.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I was also looking at the Mares Demon mask... on ST the one review of it marked it low because it was "made for bigger faces" - I just want to check it out in person first.

If you like the Atomic stuff (the glass really is clearer), then try the subframe... absolutely love mine and it is a little bigger overall than the frameless...

I'll have to see if I can find a place to try on the Subframe mask...
