Help choosing basic gear???
Hey guys,
Could you please help me out? I need to get a mask, fins, booties, gloves, and a snorkel. I would like it to be affordable (around a hundred bucks) because I already spent quite a bit on the class. If anyone has anything used that would be cool if you could give me a price or maybe some people can help me build a cart on Scuba Toys? Thanks so much! |

Getting ready to buy everything to dive. From what i have seen for new scubatoys is the best. As for used you might try ebay. I would buy the mask from a lds because if you have ever snorkled a flooding mask sucks. Plus going to be worst underwater not like you can stand up or roll over and clear it. Welcome congrats can not wait till sept when i get my gear and cert.

I would definitely go to a LDS first and try on a couple masks so you get an idea of what fits you and what doesn't. For snorkeling, if it fits, it's a good mask.
Fins, again, you won't know what they're like until you hit the water. No need to get super nice fins for snorkeling - inexpensive TUSA liberators or Imprex will do you just fine ($40) As for snorkel, I got the Mares space snorkel for $5 from ST. Works just fine, little bit of water gets in, but I wouldn't sweat it if I lost it. |

I chose this package:
Superchannel Package reviews and discounts, ScubaToys minus the mask. I would call up Joe or Larry and see if they'll swap out the fins for you for something a little more affordable. I went to my LDS for my mask. Glad I did it, found the perfect mask. Sure, I paid more than I was hoping, but you really need to get the one that fits the best. One thing that not too many people mention is the mesh bag that's included with that package. It was actually a really nice touch, it has been really good for carrying all my crap to and from class. |
