New snorkel
I am an avid snorkler. And I found my throat gets sore with the snorkel I am using. Its like I have to suck really hard ( no pun intended but it is funny) and it takes about 20 minutes for me to adjust my breathing to shallower and more natural.
Now I have been looking at some snorkels, Kapitol reef, Aqualung ultra dry flex, Aeris Cuda and there was another with a cool funky top. I was wondering did anyone have experience with these and if they did which one abse don any expert advice from the owners would be appropriate for this situation. julie |

If you shout at us, we have a brigade snorkel. That one comes with a dry cap, and if you don't like the dry cap, it also comes with a semi-dry cap. It's easy to swap between the two so you could experiment and see which works best for you... and it's a dry snorkel for under 20 bucks!

Is there a chance that you are also getting a leak in the snorkel you are using that is letting you suck in some salt water spray?? Just a thought! |

I'm not a fan of full dry snorkels, but I really like semi-drys.
Two options: #1 my personal recommendation is the Tusa Platina Hyperdry Snorkel. One of the best, tried and true snorkel designs ever made, yet incorporates all kinds of great little touches. It's my favorite snorkel for snorkeling. The only other option worth considering seriously, if you're truly having issues with snorkeling with "regular" snorkels for some reason, is the new snorkel design from Kapitol Reef, which I guess you have seen. Never tried them, personally, because I just don't snorkel enough to justify that kind of money on a snorkel, when I'm really happy with the several ones I already own. |

I live in East Tennessee and aside from this weekend( my daughters 19th birthday and we are going to OBX) I don't go in salt water. I snorkel Philly Quarry and Cherokee lake which are both fresh water.
I keep the snorkel clean and take great pains to get the grit from teh Lake out of every nook and cranny. The snorkel I am using the seabreeze dry by US Divers. It came with a set. And i am not getting resistance, just i am constantly breathing hard with it , like i cant get air through it. Hence teh sore throat. Like sucking on straw to get the last drop. When i talked wiht apulmonist he suggested a wider bore and defiante a flexible area to reduce fighting for mouth placement. any suggestions? |

Well, then I'd agree with CompuDude and vote for the Tusa http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detai...latinahyperdry It has a great mouthpiece, the snorkel is made of polyurethane so you can bend it up without hurting it, and it is a great breather!

I'm using the Oceanic Ultradry and the only thing I don't like about it is the hinge which goes onto my mask strap. I personally feel that Oceanic should consider widening the hinge for thicker mask straps. The minute I try to swivel my snorkel for a proper fit, the hinge just slides off my mask strap.
