Really only about 20 or 30 bucks more than the tusa or mares, and time again, they rate #1... for a reason. If someone wants to buy some $40 fins... I understand... but if what you want is $145 (keep in mind your Forum discount) and something you don't is $120.... why??
So go for it... you won't be sorry. Promise. |

Twin Jets
I dive the yellow scubapro twin jets. I also have some scubapro sea wings and a set of gorilla sea wings that are good but I tend to cramp with them. I've had no cramping with the twin jets. They give me plenty of power - are easy to take on and off - and are the most comfortable for me. I borrowed a set of bio fins for a dive before buying the twin jets. They were great fins also but the twin jets were just more comfortable for me. If you have the opportunity to try different fins before you make the purchase try out as many as possible or you will wind up with multiple fins like me. Its great to have a backup pair though when you head out to the quarry!

The Bio fins are the best out there IMO.
They are all rubber and very heavy and they are negative in the water. I prefer a "positive" fin and recently went with the Atomic Smoke. Great fin. But still not as efficient as the bio fin. If you can work with a negative fin, than without a doubt, go with the Apollos. The Apollo Bio fin is like magic.

The ST guys actually let me in their pool yesterday to try out both the Bios and the Zooms. This was going to be my first splitfin so I wanted to get as good of a fin as I could afford with about $100 to spend.
The zooms were much stiffer feeling than the bios and I didn't feel as if they gave me as much propulsion for the same energy exerted compared to the bios. But in the zoom's defense, they were MUCH better than my old paddle fins, hands down. The zooms were bigger size-wise too but they weighted less, so it depends on which you'd prefer, the small but heavier bios or the bigger but lighter zooms. But the bio's won my heart. It hardly feels as if you have anything on your feet and the lack of effort it takes to move through the water is phenomenal. Because those were really the only two I was considering (the Bio's are not the most expensive btw, the V-16's are $30 more expensive ) I can't tell you anything about any of the other, cheaper splits other than my conclusion that ANY split fin has to be better than a paddle. But because I didn't spend my 10 post gift card, and I just passed the 250 post mark, so I had $60 in CG's + the 10% form discount, my bio's came in at just under $90.![]() |
