Another vote for spit. Works great, and free. Been using it for 20 years.

I defog in the water, and I rinse my face first thing after surfacing, every time.

You can keep your chemicals.

<DIV>I too will do this if I have to. But I love toothpaste for defogging - smells great too.</DIV>

<DIV>I don't know about everyone else but I'm coming up there is a hell of a lot more snot in my mask from my sinuses releasing than from spitting. And I never, ever use those buckets. Uncirculated water with people's dirty hands going in is a staph/strep/coli cocktail in the making.</DIV>

A couple of local boats around here have a constantly-circulating rinse well right by the exit gates... a continuous stream of sea water keeps it fresh. Pretty handy, and sanitary, for those who use commercial defog.

That sounds much more appealing than the 5 gallon buckets I've seen on most boats.

I use 500PSI solution to defog my masks but I usually spit anyway and it works - good for whole dive.

I've been using the 500 psi stuff with good success. Seems to be the best I've been able to get my hands on. No complaints though, it's reasonable and it's readily available.

And it carries additional benefits like the tears that it will bring in your eyes to keep those contacts moist, nice odor, a brown light filter and possibly UV protection.

500psi is good but I find I have to reapply it for every dive... would rather have something that would last all day.
