Definatly not a snorkel user here. I just don't find them comfortable or overly useful when diving. The pro's don't outweigh the con's.

Yes and no. I wear a snorkel when snorkeling, or when I have a long surface swim. If I don't need it, I don't wear it.

It's just like a wetsuit--if I need a thick one, I wear a thick one. If I don't need one, I don't wear one. Wearing a thick wetsuit in hot water can hurt you. Wearing a snorkel when you don't need one can also be detrimental to your diving performance.

I always have a snorkel with me and always use it while on surface swims. I really don't find it gets in the way much.

Try diving without it. You may be pleasantly surprised. You may consider one of the folding snorkels in a pocket.

Yes I have thought about getting a folding snorkel. I thought that would be too much hassel getting it in and out, and ready to use, when I do use it most of the time on the surface.

Are the folding ones easily connectable to a mask? Or do you have to fluff around a bit? I wear gloves all the time so I also thought that would add to the hassle.

They get in the way and are uncomfortable plus the entaglement issues.

A folding snorkel is the way to go if you choose to use one.
It's there if needed, otherwise it is stored out of your way.

Oceanic has one with a little velcro (hook and loop) thing that mates to a clip that is in place on your mask strap.

Back in the day when I wore a knife on my leg I slipped a simple tube snorkel behind the straps. Later years I carried a folded one in a pocket. In 400 plus ocean dives I never needed it. I stopped bothering carrying one.
