I'll dive anything from 20'-200' deep, water temps from freezing to 80, vis from 1' to 150'. The only real key for me is something to do/see. Order of preference - Caves, Wrecks, Reefs, Quarries, Mudholes. (sometimes I prefer a quarry over a reef!)

As for gear, I usually dive either double 104's or sidemounted 85's these days.

But hey got a few questions for you. What kind of diving do you like what gear do you use. We will have to go for sure when i get my cert.

Gear - depends on what tanks I dive
singles - either a sherwood jacket BC or Zeagle ranger
backmounted doubles - 104's is a BP/Wing, 85's are usually a nomad/transpac
Sidemounts are usually a nomad/transpac though I do have a simple harness as well.

I have a problem with dive gear. I swear its breeding on its own in my garage! (5 BC's, 6 or 7 wetsuits, 4 dry suits, 17 scuba tanks, 8 masks, 6 sets of fins, 13 reels, 4 lift bags/sausages, 9 regulators, 5 computers/bottom timers, 3 can lights, 8 backup lights but only 2 snorkels)

Gotta love it! The only thing that I see missing out of your gear list is the compressor. They are nice to have. I had about that much and sold a lot of what I didn't use. Decided if I didn't use it, it was time to sell. Got my eye on more tanks though

The VFD provides the compressor - 24x7 access! (I admit, I had been shopping for one prior to joining but now I have air and formal EMS training to boot). I didn't add the boat either........

I think about selling but then I think of redundancy and backups and loaning stuff to friends, it ends there. (that, and some of the last stuff was freebie gifts (2 72's, 2 wetsuits, 1 post 90 AL80, weight belts, weights etc). Hard to go wrong with freebies.

With that vain of thought - anyone want to buy a snorkel - lightly used!

LOl out of all that you want to sell the snorkel. As for the VFD thing that gives me something to think about when i get into shape. lol Is that a bad reason for joining the VFD. Though i have seen and talked with them. Watched them help out with a dive op to find a body from where a guy from indy did not understand that falls do not mean a creek with a drain pipe spilling into it. He sliped when over and never came up. The VFD around here seems to be a bite of a joke. There is a guy who i swear is bigger then me. Old out of shape he might not be 470 but he ant 6'5'' either.

If you want to join the VFD - do it for the right reasons. I really like helping people and that I why I joined. The air is a side benefit but I joined without ever expecting it. Its also a significant commitment of time. A compressor would be cheaper in the long run if all you wanted was air.......

I know. I have been thinking about it for a few months even before i made the choice to get my cert and gear. The one we lived by in NC wanted me to even at my size then. Though i was alittle smaller. He asked if i could climp a ladder and i said yes. GUest a little town in NC does not need to run up 30 flights of stairs.
