Dive Rite LED 500 Flashlight

This Dive Rite LED 500 is a bright, long-burning flashlight that delivers 500 lumens of illumination and up to 30-hours of burn time on eight AA 1.5V alkaline batteries. No other light LED on the market today delivers this combination of output and burn time. Comparable in brightness underwater to a 10W HID canister light, the Dive Rite LED 500 flashlight has unique LED bulbs that are durable, resist breakage and they are not sensitive to short striking the light on and off.

The LED 500 Flashlig (more..)

I am debating purchasing this light. I saw one at the Houston Diveshow. I also contacted Dive rite and they have a Goodman handl for this unit tha costs $70. Has anyone tried this unit and have pros/cons. I am still hearing that LED's don't have the focus capability of an HID. Also, would any cave divers recommend this light, the 12 hour burn time is amazing!

Well, after researching this I have decided to wait and buy a 21W HID. It seems like a good lightm just not enough for the type of diving I plan to do.

Looks like a nice light. Price doesn't seem bad for the light for what you get.....

But $115 extra for the 40" cable? Dive Rite must be smoking crack.

Same thing for $70 for a Goodman Handle. I mean it's just a piece of bent sheet metal and a strap.

I thought the same thing, the cost of the accessories was a big reason I didn't buy it. They should sell a Canister conversion that has the extension cable, goodman handle and belt attachment for $115, then maybe it would be worth it.
