I never gave night diving any thought, I just did it. Used to go off the CT and RI shores for lobster at nite and clams during the day. Night diving never held any mystique for me, it's just something I did. It's really a trip when you can 'light up you're world' just by waving your arm around.
A lot of the commercial diving I did was like night, either too deep or the water was too dirty or it actually was night. On one job I had a 500 watt light that was a dull orange glow a foot away from my face. On other jobs it was just me and moonlight. Commercial kinda takes the fun out tho. When it was too dark or dirty to see I just closed my eyes and 'saw with my hands'.

1st time at night was great with a bunch guys with years of experience never thought much about it. Like you said always thoyght you just did it.
