Midnight Party?

I've logged many night dives, beginning at dusk and lasting about an hour.

We've been with the tarpon and found the brittle stars out clubbing.
Question is --- what goes on late at night? Do different critters come out, are they more or less active, or do they all go to sleep?

I am a morning person, so a dawn dive is more appealing than midnight, but.....

i did some night dives and we did an early morining dive, 530 am, and believe me we saw very little!!! some fish here and there, and it was in belize in the reef system, usually there are hundreds of horse eye jacks and chubs and maybe 10 tarpon. but during the early dive nothing. quite weird i guess fish do sleep hahahah

all the midnight dives we've done have been really, really busy with predators. You will witness alot of successful hunts, and possibly some feeding "frenzys", especially with the smaller reef/blacktip sharks.

I did two night dives last Sept. aboard the Spree at the Flower Gardens. The first dive was at dusk and the second we hit the water at about 10:00. The second dive is probably the best dive I have ever done. There was so much more life and large predators. Saw the biggest lobster I have ever seen. I just wish I would have had more air. I boarded the boat with under 200 lbs. and still had 15 min of no deco time left. This year I am taking larger tanks with me, so that I can dive my computer instead of my air.

I did my first dawn dive in Bonaire about a month ago and had a good time. It was kind of boring at first (got in the water around 5:15) but as the dive went on and the reef started to wake up it was really cool.

Most of my night dive has been more like right-after-dusk dives, I haven't ventured out really late but that might make for a pretty cool dive.

You'll see completly different fish many times at night, more predetors and such. One of the things you'll also find is sharks ect suddenly coming up on you due to the limited visability, very cool.
