Long Island's Season?

just wondering how long i could dive this year with my current set-up... im willing to be alittle cold for the dive..

ive got a 7mm jumpsuit a 5mm hood, 5mm booties, and 3mm gloves.

I also have "under armour" that i could use if needed.

How long do you all think i can still dive for the year with my wetsuit and be comfortable?

You're rapidly approaching the end of the wetsuit dive season. The lake around here got up to 74 degrees max, and a week ago it was already down to 60. I wouldn't suspect you could stay in the water long after Halloween... and once you're out is just as bad.

Where do youse guys in NY dive? Sometimes you can get a damaged dry suit for almost nothing, and get it repaired by the manufacturer fairly cheaply.

I dive in a 7mm full suit, 7/5mm hood and 5mm gloves.
Last week we were off shore on a shallow ocean dive and there were a few times when I felt a little chill (temp at 58). This week we're diving in the LI Sound, so I'll see how cold that is. I'm hoping to get at least 3 more weeks diving wet.

The ocean temps should hold a little longer, coming from the south and all. Lakes on the other hand tend to drop temps a litttle faster.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but I sure felt a little chill last Sunday and we were only at 50 fsw. Who knows, maybe it was just an off day for me...

I would love to pick up a dry suit, but the only problem with that is my dive buddies would have to get a dry suit too in order for me to keep on diving for a while. We have all talked about it. One day i am sure we will all get into dry diving. but probably not till next season

I dove in the LI Sound yesterday. Very comfortable temps, about 65 degrees. About 5 ft viz. We did two dives. One on an old scattered wreck and a drift dive.

I don't know how quickly the water temps, of the sound drop as we get further into fall, but from where we dove yesterday it feels like you may have another couple of months diving with a wetsuit.

I am NOT an expert, but....before i got my dry suit as a birthday gift, i was looking at all dive shops that have used gear and ebay. if you know your make and size its really a no brainer. dry suits if they are not old, keep giving, if you get one used , test it at home and it leaks, send it back....otherwise, you wont have to pay street price and you can dive till ice is on your nose...
