When and Where to go in Alaska

I am sure during the winter Alaska is off limits. But when is the actual summer? Where are some good ice/glacier dives. What else is there in Alaska? Whales/crabs?

Winter diving in Alaska is great!

Easiest place for a visitor to dive is probably Seward. Dive Alaska (an Anchorage shop) runs a boat out of there and does regular dive trips. (www.divealaska.net)

There's also great diving in Ketchikan and Juneau, you can probably find some information on the internet if you do a little searching.

And for the truly adventerous, you can come dive out here in the Bering Sea. The winter weather can be ugly, but breaks in the weather make for some nice dive oppurtunities.

I'm sure that diving Alaska must be awesome, but no way you're getting me out in the Bering Sea in the winter. I've seen Deadliest Catch!

There is this really cool dive site in russia and was wondering if anything like this could be found in alaska http://www.ice-diving.ru/galleries/gallery/en.285.htm.

Bearing Sea seems very extreme.

What else is there?

Bears, lots and lots of bears. (and Salmon, that's why there are lots of Bears) If you want to take a break from diving, spend a weekend at Katmai, and see a lot of bears. Unforgetable

We have many of the same critters, but don't have to worry about the ice.

Aside from the cold, the diving here is pretty tame! Unalaska Island has lots of bays and coves that shelter it from the cranky Bering Sea.
