No own has any opinions on this reg at all? I guess that's what it's on sale for so cheap. Does that mean that I should not get it?

Trey, Dacor made fine equipment and the Reg will probably work fine. But Dacor has been discontinued and eventually (if not already), parts will become very hard to find. In the longterm, I don,t think that is a good option. But if the short term money savings are important for you, then go ahead! The choice is yours!

Five dollars more gets you a Mares reg. that's not discontinued from Scubatoys - with a warranty...I could be wrong but I don't think the Eagle has been sold new since about 2004 when Dacor was taken over by Mares. Codman is right about the parts availability also, I've seen several posts from people looking for Dacor parts recently.

There's other options to consider around that price range at Leisurepro but manufacturer's warranty isn't available through them.

The reports of the demise of Dacor have been frequent and greatly exagerated. Mares bout out Dacor years ago and it is the older Dacor equiptment that you'll have a hard time finding parts and service for. The newer equiptment will still be supported by Dacor subsidiary of Mares.

h2, does Mares have the production facilities for the newer Dacor models parts? because I know that for the older models, they don't. I presumed it was the same situation for the newer Dacor models too. They had a stock of parts and whe that ran out... Bye Bye!

Anyways, I also agree that if there is an equivalent Mares reg, that is still current, for not much more, buying a discontinued model doesn't make sense.

From what I understand, the newer Dacor models (2007) have been built by Mares, with Mares parts under the Mares/Dacor logo.

When Mares bought Dacor they thought they were buying a well managed co., with a wharehouse full of replacement parts and repair kits. What they found was a company with no wharehouse of spare parts. They found that the manufacturing process was not the most modern, and scrapped the Dacor manufacturing methods. that is why it is hard to find parts for the Pre-Mares Dacor rigs. I have one of the old Dacor octo's and dread each annual since one day they will tell me there are no more parts, and I'll have to actually spend money on a new octo.
