New Oceanic Octo emiminates octo holder

I just saw this octo under just in. The magnetic keeper seems like a great idea. The good news is that a swivel 180 octo can be retrofitted with the magnetic parts for less than $40. If you want to learn more check this link out:

Or buy one from st:

I wonder if it can affect your compass, if it's strong enough to hold the octo securely.

Not sure, but we just sent it an octo to be retrofitted, once it gets back we'll test it. Having said that I usually lead during dives and my dad follows, so my compass should be far away from the magnet.

Cool. Now I can have a magnet fly off of my BC when I do a giant stride. Can't wait.

Here's the link to it on our pages: Oceanic Swiv Octo with Magnetic Keeper , Octos, Oceanic, Oceanic Swiv Octo with Magnetic Keeper

And from testing, it appears to not affect the compass unless you have it within a foot of the compass module. I guess the earth has a bit more magnetic pull than the clip!

Trying to put that back on with 5mm gloves could be interesting. I'm waiting to see how the magnet works for my dad, but I won't know until late may.

THAT, is a very good point. I can see that as a positive; especially when using the octo to inlflate a dsmb.
Same problem could be encountered with most of the other octo retainers out there.

I'm with you. Much simpler and it doesn't require deployment/stowing to use. Its always available and not dragging behind or stuffed in a pocket etc.
