Dive Rite Jetstream vs. Dive Rite RG3000 w/ Ice vs. Poseidon Duration 90

Hi Everyone,

I am tearing my hair out with this tough decision! This is perhaps the most difficult item for me to pick...

The RG3000 w/ ice kit is rated for extremely cold waters, it was made for the tech world so it should breath nicely down deep, it is relatively inexpensive, and overall just seems like a good regulator.

The Dive Rite Jetstream is darn near bomb proof, a super easy breather, seems ultra safe. But it requires a special hose, is more expensive than the RG3000, and might be more expensive and/or harder to service.

That Poseidon Duration 90 looks like a dream regulator but the price tag is incredibly high and has all the same drawbacks of the Jetstream.

Any thoughts or comments that could make my life easier?

Thanks,
Sam

You, didn't say what you want to use it for. Define the mission, the mission defines the regulator.

Ditto Cummings66's comment.

FYI-I own 2 DR Hurricanes and they are incredible breathers. They are also a reg to consider and ST can get them for you.

From reading your question looks like you may have answered your own thread..?

I would save some big bucks and get a Salvo SR3/SRX.

I'd go with the more standard dive rites, personally. Not a big fan of Poseidon... or specialized hoses that can't be replaced in a pinch.

I also don't like hoses that can't be replaced, but sometimes to get what you want you have to use them. My Viking drysuit uses a larger hose than a normal drysuit, so I can't borrow anybodies LP hose and attach because mine is bigger at the connector. Never been an issue, but it does mean if I had to replace it my options are limited.

I still don't like it though.

Sorry about that. I am a beginning diver who just wants a safe, cold water rated regulator that will grow as my needs increase. I think the RG3000 is the winner. I have looked at the hurricane and I don't see what it has to offer over the RG3000 w/ Ice Kit. Then again I have heard a lot of people sweat by the Hurricane.

Actually, does anyone know what the benefit of the Hurricane is over the RG3000 w/ Environmental kit? The RG3000 even has a swivel on the 1st stage. Rated for colder water... about the only thing I can imagine is that it doesn't breath as easy? I would love to try both of them, not really sure where to do that. hrmm.

Maybe someone you know or your LDS has regs that you my be able to try out and by all means get something that will grow as you progress in your diving. Growth IS the mission. you coudn't do much better than the regs you are looking at.

I have 3 of the 2500's (same 1st stage but different 2nd) and a hurricane. I can't tell a difference. They are all good regs.

My opinion - as a new diver, you won't be able to tell the difference either. Get what you like and be happy. Any of them will grow with you into whatever diving you might do in the future.
