Christo-Lube? 1st Stage connections
I ordered my Octo and BC separate from my Reg and SPG, So I need to make the inflator and octo connections. Reading the Oceanic Manual it says to use Christo-Lube MCG 111.
Really is there any reasonable alternatives? Christo-lube is absurdley expensive. I likely won't be diving anything but air for quite some time.Any recomendataions are greatly appreciated |

I am surprised that they call for lube on those o-rings. These are not dynamic seals (moving). I do not use any lube on static seals.
Could the instructions that you are reading be for other o-rings in the reg?

To make a long story short, if you aren't going to dive anything but air, it probably doesn't matter if you use viton rings with O2 compatable lube or more common o-rings (with or without "regular" lube). You'll want to make sure you have everything properly set up and cleaned if you want to make it oxygen compatable though.
That said, while christolube is absurdly expensive, it also only takes an absurdly small amount of it to lubricate an o-ring.

In a pinch, a little O2 compatible spit will lube those o-rings up enough to snug them up.

Just buy some regular silicone grease... It costs near nothing, and will last a long time (can also be used for any other O-rings you need lubed, like camera housings). As long as you don't use over EAN40 Nitrox mixes, you'll be fine.
I used a very thin coat (just wet the surface) on my O-rings... As was recommended in the users manual... Cheers! ![]() |
