<DIV>The buddies I dive with are Trimix divers and that's how they were taught, I'll shoot an email to one of them and ask why they told him to breathe it down. Their training agencies range from DSAT, TDI and IANTD andusually from more than one of them. Of course it could just be the instructors as well. Kind of like how the one I want to go with requires skills I consider super human, in other words beyond the printed requirements.</DIV>

<DIV>My training is via TDI Adv Nitrox and Deco Procedures and PADI DSAT</DIV>

<DIV>But isn't this one reason to have a buddy? To have someone indicate to you that the issue has been resolved?</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I dive ScubaPro MK10's that are not sealed, so it would seem to be better to have the 2nd pressurized; I clean the regs while they are pressurized so why would I want to breathe the regs down if not neccessary?</DIV>

I'm guessing it must be an instructor thing then, you have similar training agencies and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't change the game once you hit trimix.
<DIV>Your last question is why I posted the question in the first place, why do it because to me it doesn't seem safe for the reg. Yet it's commonly done around here by technical divers. I'm still waiting on a responce from my buddy.</DIV>

Here's the reason for breathing down the reg. You breathe it down to insure the valve is closed and at the same time you listen to see if the air leak is gone or not. That tells you if you got the right valve shutdown or not.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Immediately after deciding if the problem is fixed or not you might turn the valve back on and purge the reg to re-pressurise it.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Sounds like a good idea if you can't see where the leak is coming from, use the ears and listen. By breathing down the reg you also insure there is no possible confusion as well.</DIV>
