Having issues.
Went out for a few dives today, on the second dive I notice a leaking noise coming from my Mares Abyes 12. After purging it a few times the noise stopped, but then after messing with it some more it started again. It definitely sounds like something is not sealing right. What might cause this? I would think that a new reg that is only a few months old would not already be having issues. Its not a huge leak or anything but, enough for me to be a little concerned.

not to sound like your mother....but what item are we talking about here?..oh that's right....a piece of equipment that's sole purpose in life is to insure you stay alive. it might be nothing or it may be a prelude to an unfortunate incident. do yourself a favor, just take it to a LDS and have it checked out. or....do it for me. last thing I want to hear about is somebody on this forum not coming back from a dive.
we clear?

When it comes to noises try to localize where it's coming from, is it the first stage or the second? Do you or your buddy notice bubbles anywhere?
IMO if you think it's changed then check it. Age doesn't matter, you could have got a rock or who knows what stuck in the second stage. I've actually seen a rock in there before. Not mine, my regs never drag in the mud or rocks but it does happen. You could have sand, salt, or silt causing problems, it's not a fault of the regulator in those cases.

Well just an update. I have messed it with a few times this week, and it has not had the issue come up again.
Cumming's, It was definitely from the first stage., Im really careful to not set it on the ground or anything like that, but I guess anything is possible. Guess ill run it by scuba toys when I get a chance and get it checked out, like yall said better safe than sorry. Who knows I could just be crazy and have been hearing things. My dive buddy could not hear anything, but said his hearing was not the best. |
