Tough decesion
I am having a tough decision on a regulator to chose. There are so many out there and any suggestions on what and how to decide would be appreciated. I think I have narrowed it down to an Oceanic Delta 4 or a Sherwood Magnum. Thoughts on these WOULD be appreciated. JOe

Look at the Aeris Atmos Pro on sale at ST. It used to cost $400. I've been using it for about 18 months. Two different controls to set air flow, including Venturi Assist. Breathes as easily in 46-degree water as 80+. Easy to breathe at 100+. Couple HP ports, lots of LP ports.

When I was looking at trying out different regs I found that I liked the Zeagles, the higher end Oceanics and actually the TUSA's. Of course I wound up with an Atomic B2, but I was buying alot of gear at once so the price premium sort of disappeared in the mix. I think that the Atomic regs are much smoother than any of the others mentioned above, and I spent one whole afternoon with a tank at ST's reg isle, plus multiple dives with older & newer loaner regs.
What I found from what I tried was that there were none that were unacceptable, but some were noticeably better breathers than others. In the end they all delivered air; but was a given reg worth the extra money and did I have the extra in my dive budget? One last thing, scubadiving.com has published reg reviews from their magazine, and while they are not a substitute for a live test they did give me a sense of cost versus performance to use as a baseline. |

I probably would have considered the Zeagles a bit more, but ended up going with the Oceanic GT3 due to my budget, some recommendations and the fact that I can get them serviced fairly close to me
I have no experience with the Sherwood or the Delta 4's - the Aeris that Rick posted looks like a good deal |

Regulator selection can be pretty much non subjective. Look here.
Scuba Diving Magazine - Regulators Now, based on what see that fits your needs in your price range, come back and ask again. Also consider accessabilty af service centers.

Also consider where you'll be diving ... if in 40º-45º or lower temps, you want an environmentally sealed 1st stage, and probably a diaphram 1st stage versus a piston first stage, so it will be less likely to ice up. If you have lots of Sherwood dealers handy, their Blizzard regulator might be a good choice. In Oceanic, the GT3 or Delta 4 both have environmentally sealed, diaphram 1st stages.
