main: 40-inch Miflex hose routed under right arm
octo: 22-inch on on necklace Why? The 40-inch hose doesn't pull at my like my rubber hose did. The length helps when donating to OOA diver. The short octo hose reduces entanglement hazard; it right under my chin when/if I need it.

Seems like a reasonable compromise for those who only dive open water and don't want to wrap a long hose around them.

7ft primary and 24in secondary. I had a 22" secondary, which was just fine on singles, but my doubles routing made it a tad too short (couldn't look left without it trying to pull out of my mouth).
From day 1 in OW class, I've always wondered why we weren't taught to donate the primary and go to the octo; it just made more sense--get working gas to the diver who's in trouble, then deal with yourself. I also wondered why we were never taught to go to the octo before attempting a regulator recovery. That led to me becoming a pretty quick convert when I discovered the long-hose. |
