International Warranty for "free parts for life" - bcd and regs

Hi

Do any of the regs and BCD qualify for international warranty for free parts for life?

Should these be bought in AUS for warranty and free parts (does this include servicing too)?

My dive shop is great here in Sydney (could be buying from them BCD and regs) and I am trying to keep my options open

That's a good question... I think there's a variety of complicated legal / economic reasons that generally keep warranties from being honored outside the country of which they were purchased.

I know this is the case with Scubapro/Aqualung/Apeks, etc, but not sure about Zeagle, Oceanic, Atomic and others...

Free parts programs are local to the country - so someone in another country does not have to honor a free parts program from a different country. But warranty is a different animal. If there is a manufacturers defect with the reg that is covered under warranty - that would be taken care of no matter where you are. In fact we have some shops we work with in Australia that can assist in any warranty work we need done so we don't even have to ship it back to the states.

Now on some things like computers, it's going back to the manufacturer anyway, as the local distributors around the world do not have the capabilities to work on computer boards... then it's coming back no matter what.

I hope that gives you a general over view, if you have specific questions for your situation, feel free to PM me.

Normally in Oz the free parts for life is based on paying for an annual service. But the Biggest difference you will find with your local dive store in Sydney and an international retailer like Scubatoys is the price. Have a look at the RRP in Australia and the price of the same item on Scubatoys. You will find their is a huge difference and often the ST price is less than 50% of the Australian RRP. You will find that you could afford a very professional kit from ST for the same money as a basic kit here in Oz. Get a quote from both and compare. You will see why their is alot of Aussies here cuase we are buying alot of gear from ST.

Regards Mark
