Reg Storage
I've asked this on other, less awesome forums (fora?) and did not get a satisfactory answer. What is the preferred way to store a reg? Is it ok to keep it in my ultra-sexy, highly official ScubaToys reg bag? (I trust the daunting visage of Joe and Larry to ward off evil spirits and gremlins.) Should I leave the dust cap off for a little while to dry any moisture that hopefully did not get into the first stage? Would that even help if moisture did penetrate the dark regions of the first stage? If I were to purchase one of those fancy bc hangers with a t to hang my reg on, how should I hang the reg? I don't want to put undue strain on my precioussss. (<--Insert Gollum voice.)
Thanks for any advice, stories, tales of woe, or oddly placed recipies. |

I keep my regs in a reg bag. I usually store them with the bag open just out of habit more than anything else. And we use DIN regs, so they all have a cap on them. But otherwise, I'd keep the plug that a yolk reg comes with and make sure it's in place. There's no need for a fancy storage method.

I keep mine in a regulator bag as well, but after I finish the cleaning of them (under pressure) I will leave the caps off for a day to insure everything is dry. Then I cap them until next weekend when I repeat the process.

I have mine in a Rubbermaid container wit a locking lid. All the rest of my stuff is kept in a large rubbermaid tub. It makes soaking easy when I have to meet my wife at a friends house after a dive. Then I take it home, hang it, and then put it in the closet. Tubs are stackable!

apparently you should never blow air at the regs with the first stage disconnected or with the cap off. |
