Sherwood reg = never pay for parts?

I read that in Sherwood regs, you never pay for parts in annual maintenance?

True?

Well - depends really. This is true for most regs as well.

If you are first owner, bought from an authorized dealer, and is kept serviced every year then yes, many reg manufacturers offer free parts for life. If you bought it used, or from a non-authorized dealer - then you don't get the parts for life bit. Sherwood though may not be one of them to offer this. I bought a blizzard in 2001 and it was free parts for 2 reg rebuild then pay. That may have changed since 2001, it may not have.

As for value, well, a full retail price parts kit for a 1st and (2) 2nds can go for $35-$50 depending on the reg. Add in labor which, from ST, is $49.95. If you do service every year - it might save you money. If you don't, or you plan to service them yourself, its meaningless.

If you are looking for a first regulator, beware. Sherwoods last a long time, and take a lot of abuse. You may not have an excuse to upgrade later.

There are much better regs. But, Sherwoods breathe just fine.

For the most expensive, new regulator that Sherwood is selling, the SR1?, parts are free for life. On the other hand, I have a Sherwood Maximus, and have no expectation that parts are free anytime with it (willing to be proven wrong though!). I believe Oceanic provides lifetime parts, and some other mfgrs may also.

Aqualung offered this last year, on their entire line of regs. Don't know if they still are.

I'll agree with what LARGO said. Sherwood regs are not top-performing regs, but they are built like tanks. They are easy (for a shop or somone with tools) to repair and take a lot of abuse.

My sherwood never gave me any problems, but in order to upgrade I had to get my oldest kid into diving so I could give it to her.

I have never used or owned one, but based on a recent review I think the new SR1 might just render that statement invalid..

Most Sherwoods I've seen come with two plastic service rings on the hoses attached to the first stage. These are good for parts, the tech removes one and gets a parts kit from the manufacturer for it. So you have free parts for two years. Sometimes they don't remove the rings, though. The parts kit on my Magnum was $18 last year.

Invalid in more ways than one... the newer higher tech regs are not nearly as easy to service as the more classic beater designs you see in rental fleets.

Still, Sherwood does tend to try to keep service in mind moreso than some other manufacturers.
