Apeks Egress

I use this reg for both my rec and tech rigs and it's never let me down. The flat design works well when held by a rubber necklace. That came in handy when the mouthpiece slipped off my primary reg and I was only getting water in my mouth.
It works pretty well inverted although you get a little bit of water along with the air. Not enough to be a problem.
I've used it down to 41F (5C).

Ideally, the same type of reg you're using for your primary.

I think you will find that nearly all of us use the exact same 2nd stage, for both our Primary as well as our Backup, (Octos.)

Make sense

Thanks all for the response

As one of my buddy was telling me, no point going cheaper with an octo, your life or your buddy life may depend on it

Cheers

Yes - but his/her life doesn't depend on mouthpiece comfort, venturi controls, so forth.

Seconded

I wouldn't want to give an out-of-gas buddy a potentially inferior reg that I wouldn't use myself
