need help choosing 1st regulator

First off I want to say Thanks to scuba toys for having this great resource, and wow great prices on gear!

So, I just completed my OW training!

Ive been looking at regs etc, and need one for recreational diving/vacations. I live in Buffalo, NY so IM sure there will be some cold water diving at some point, early fall etc. I have it narrowed down to a few. Either the Oceanic alpha 8
Oceanic Alpha 8 Sport Regulator reviews and discounts, Oceanic

the mares mr12 rebel
Mares MR12 Rebel Regulator reviews and discounts, Mares

or the aeris atmos pro
Aeris Atmos Pro Regulator reviews and discounts, Aeris

or get this tusa reg package
Tusa Regulator Package reviews and discounts, Tusa

any recs? Thanks

I can recommend the Oceanic Alpha 8 with CDX5, which is an environmentally sealed regulator: Oceanic Alpha 8 CDX5 regulator reviews and discounts, Oceanic . ST just reduced the price, making it a good deal. I use this on my pony bottle, and have used it in a quarry to the low 40's with no issues. The environmentally sealed regulator is important if you'll be diving in colder waters.

Be sure you take a look at their used/demo gear... some swinging deals there, and on some of the items you're looking at.

I don't have any firsthand knowledge with the regs you listed but I do agree with the Environmentally Sealed aspect mentioned by Sansho. I started off thinking I would just dive in the Gulf of Mexico and the Carribean and didn't get Env. Sealed regs. Now that I have expanded my diving opportunities I have seen the need for the Env. Sealed and am now looking for new regs.

I bought the Tusa pckage and just got back from Cozumel and it was great. I did a fair amount of research and it seems to be the best bang or the buck. The general feedback I got was it is a good reg and for a new diver you probbly wouldn't notice the subtle differences in the more expensive ones. So in my opinion save the money to spend on other gear and go with the Tusa package.

I'd also advise looking at the Zeagles and Dive Rites. I own both and they'd be great choices for a new diver. You won't 'outgrow' any of thier models no matter where your diving takes you.

Thanks for the help.

I just purchased the cdx5/ alpha 8 and got an alpha 8 octo. Should work well for the colder waters here in Buffalo.
