Looking for 'different' DIN adaptor

Hi,

I have 2 Dacor / Mares regulators that originally came with a K fitting.

Since then, I have purchased 2 DIN fittings for the regs instead, but have been having problems with o-rings slipping.

I had a look at a mates of mine (same regs) and he seems to have a different DIN fitting to mine.

This is the fitting I have:

This is the fitting he has:

(Sorry for the bad focus. Was taken in a hurry on my mobile phone).

Anyway - the arrow on the first picture shows where the o-ring is supposed to go on mine, but I've been having problems with o-rings popping.

Using the other type, I have had no issues whatsoever. (I'm assuming that my friends design pushes it hard against the back plate so it can't go anywhere).

I was wondering if anyone could help me as to where to purchase some adaptors like my friends. (He's had them for ages, whereas I only ordered mine about 12 months ago, so I'm not sure if mine is the 'new' type or not).

Thanks in Advance.

are you sure that the DIN piece you picked up is for your specific regulator?

I believe that you are using the wrong o-ring. All of the DIN fittings that I have seen have the O-ring captured at the end.

I believe so. The old DIN type (That my friend has) was back when Dacor were still around. The new one (that I have) I believe has been redesigned by Mares.

The other end does have the O-Ring there. (ie - the end you have shown appears to be the end that goes into the tank valve. The end I'm showing is the end that goes into the first stage reg).

Thats why i ask about it being the right one or not...
Where did you get it? did you tell the "I have (insert reg model here)"
because as it appears, the one you have looks very different from his...

Hi,

I've been told that the difference in models has to do with the old model being designed by Dacor, and the new one by Mares.

I have 2 of these DIN adaptors, and have been using them for 18 months. I just find that they aren't as reliable as the earlier models. They don't pop all the time, but enough for me to be concerned.

once the o-ring is in the regulator body, they don't move (the one you say keeps popping) If it's popping, then there is something wrong.
I suggest you take it in to a certified shop, and have someone look at it.

I'll be honest, from what you describe, I'd say the 'new' model isn't suitable for your reg. Mares might claim otherwise but if you have leaks and o-rings popping, its not fitting correctly and shouldn't be used. Also, from a strictly gross examination, the seating surface is quite a bit smaller on the 'new' model leaving room for it to extrude at least compared to the 'old' one. In a lot of respects, it looks like a double o-ring seal.

If you don't want to part with the old Dacor regs, try looking for 'old' model din coversion parts. I'd personally just get new regs and ditch the hassle/headache, even if was just a first stage to start with.

Yup, that's what I'm trying to do by posting here...

Apart from this adaptor there is nothing wrong with the regs (and I haven't come across any other regs I like nicer at this point in time). (They're side exaust slim line regs - Viper Tek series).
