Im lookiing at getting this package
http://scubatoys.com/store/detail.as...ZeagleTusaPack

and wondering if i should upgrade to the flathead as it is only 50 bucks which is an insane deal?

I will be diving mostly in california where the water temp can hit low to mid 50's.

Thanks,

Chewy

Id say if you got the extra $50 to spare - go for it..
You can't go wrong either way though!

I have a 50D and love it, but 50 for a flathead?
Do you need any other gear that you can spend it on?

well you always need or is it want something else.... um yea i could spend it on a knife..
What are the overall advantages of upgrading to the flathead. Its also the fact that the flathead is 130 bucks more yet it can be head for less than half that when included in the package so i always strive to have the best equipment within my pricrange and i can deffinalty afford to pay 50 bucks more if the upgrade is advisable/

I have the 50D and I would probably go for the Flathead if I had to do it again. The 50D is a great reg (I do love it) and has never given me an issue, but the first stage is on a swivel and introduces another potential point of failure. It is just fifty bucks - go for it.

Zeagle gives you free parts on any rebuild for life, so why would the swivel be an issue? If it goes bad then it should be replaced as it would be a rebuild issue. (ScottZeagle, keep me honest here)

If I want to take this one step further I can ask the question. Do you plan on diving in cold water? Cold enough to need a heat exchanger to prevent a freeze up. If so, you could take a look at the Envoy Deluxe which I believe is a favorite of Larry's

Here is your comparison:

I stand corrected, I called my LDS and a swivel probably would not be considered a rebuild. But the o-ring that is in the swivel is. He had never heard of an issue with any Zeagle swivel.

Get ready guys....he told me that the Ranger BCD would now be built in China. Apparently, they were not making money on it being built in Florida.

I am not concerned with the coverage of who is going to fix it, I don't want it to break in the first place. The whole point of my commentary was that it is a part that could go bust unlike another first stage where that possibility doesn't exist. Saying that, I haven't heard of any issues with it either.
