(usual caveat...try some out and buy the one you like)

Personally I love how easy my Mares Proton Metal breathes, it's an easy breather even upside down or on my back.

Agreed. A kind of weird side-note, though, is how different it is from the regular (plastic or whatever) Proton. That one doesn't seem to breathe as easily, and has a pretty different profile of inhale/exhale pressures, if you look at Mares's website.

Agreed, I tried a couple of other Mares before I picked the Metal and found it just breathes so much easier. Before the Mares I dove a Conshelf XIV...so the difference is huge for me.

I couldn't even hazard a suggestion without even knowing what type of diving you intend to do.

My first choice (Apeks) isn't there.

I am all about price to performance. Hard to beat the Zeagle Flathead VI right now. If you can find a deal on another quality reg, that would have made my list as well.

My regulator has barely been wet and yet I keep looking at the Zeagle Flathead VI on ST. So many people seem to love this reg and the price is very nice. I should really stay off the ST site. Too tempting.

I am a recreational diver with over 100 plus dives. I have been out of diving for a few years and just getting back into it. I have my AOW cert and going for rescue/nitrox/tech diving next. I’m looking for a durable reg that is somewhat all-purpose. I’m open to all suggestions and even looking at the Apeks now.
