reg advice?

Buying my first gear. I'm debating purch of a Oceanic Gt3 with the dvt(opinions?). Larry at ST has shot me a great package price with this reg but I was wondering if the dvt is worth the exta cost or is it a gimmic. I do mostly recreational diving but water temps in the midwest can get to 40 degrees. Any suggestions or alternate choices?

I haven't used one but from what I hear, the DVT is the real deal. In fact, I don't know why it took anyone this long to come out with it. I don't know what the price difference is but if it's not a whole lot, then it might be worth the extra, kind of like purchasing a warranty. Honestly though, if you are taking proper care of your equipment, it's not necessary.

I have an Aeris AT 400 with DVT. It uses the same system. That little Red valve/stopper/etc. has some resistance to it and I suspect it would keep water out under most usual circumstances. It doesn't affect air delivery that I can tell. Heavy D is correct; proper care should take care of any problems, but; it's a nice backup to have for lack of detail, laziness, and the occasional brain fart.
