Sherwood Pros and Cons
My buddy has a Used Maximus that he's going to sell me; consequently, I've been doing my homework on Sherwoods. most folks I talk with up here in the GWN (Great white North) swear by them, while on the boards I'm finding that there seems not to be many who are avid Sherwood fans.
my searchers were yeilded fewer results than I expected. about the only criticue I've heard about Sherwoods is that they are not the most "advanced" regs out there and they don't breath as easily as others; but they are workhorses I'm told. I've gathered that (besides the SR-1) Sherwoods are solid, easily repaird, and cold water friendly regulators. I only want to buy once, figuratively speaking. So, have I over-looked somnething here, Is there a reason not to dive a Sherwood? |

After doing the reading, you are probably going to find that most name brand regulators are going to suit the average divers needs. Some will breath slightly better and have some additional features, but unless you are doing some technical diving it is going to work for you (and will probably work for you in many technical situations). I don't think you have anything to worry about picking up this reg.

My buddy is a tech diver who's cutting back on his inventory. this is actually his primary regulator he's parting with and, if I'm not mistaken, he's taken it down to the 200 FSW mark as well as several penetration dives. I'm very comfortable with the quality of the device, but was rather surprised that there weren't more on the forum who Dove it. Likewise, I was surprised that it didn't make the Navy's ANU List (not that this matters though). |

Old thread but I'll chime in...I've got an 05 Maximus model and I love it. I swapped out the standard diffuser and put the wide port on, best thing they could have come up with. The whole bit looks rather big and bulky and my jaw does get a little fatigued, but it doesn't really bother me. The adjustment valve really helps, if you adjust it very liberally all you have to do is think about taking a breath and there it is. It is also made so the hose routes under my right arm instead of over my shoulder. I like that for streamlining purposes.
