Aqualung/Apeks recalls--Should I be concerned
I'm buying my first regulator and had decided on a scubapro, but got a call from my LDS letting know about Aqualung/Apeks promotions that are running now and asking if I wanted to take advantage of the deal. I've heard talk on the forum about recalls of Aqualung and Apeks regs, but haven't heard anything negative about scubapro. Folks seem to like all three brands of regs and with the savings I could probably buy a tank, which would be nice. Since this is my first reg, this is new territory for me, and I'm just wondering if I should worry about Aqualung or Apeks regs.
Thanks. |

No worries. All reputable manufacturers issue recalls. You might have to worry more about some off-brand taiwanese reg that has a possible issue but no recall.
The only recall that was applicable to my Apeks reg was because they learned that they had shipped a reg with a missing part and they wanted to make sure it was the only one. No injuries were caused. |

For instance, just a couple here: I personally own and love my: Tusa RS460 Regulator reviews and discounts, Tusa both the wife and I have them, they breathe great down to 40m, tested recently, and, they are identical to Scubapro Mk16/R390 regs, balanced diaphragm, so, really almost anyone can work on them... However, don't just follow me blindly, there are lots more options: Lots of people on the board here love the Zeagle stuff: Zeagle Envoy Deluxe Regulator reviews and discounts, Zeagle or Zeagle ZX 50D Regulator reviews and discounts, Zeagle or wholly crap, this one is cheap right now (used, but with Scubatoys warranty): Zeagle DS V Regulator reviews and discounts, Zeagle and then, looks like you can get a hell of a deal on a Mares Abyss right now, which I might add is a really nice looking reg: Mares MR 12 Abyss reviews and discounts, Mares Long story short, all of these are balanced diaphragm regulators from reputable companies... There are definitely some deals to be had, some you can still take 10% off of... You will find good reviews on each and every one of them... Obviously you will need to add an octopus to all of them, but you can get a decent octo for: Tusa SS 10 Octopus reviews and discounts, Tusa $72 or Mares Proton Octopus reviews and discounts, Mares $80 or you choose... Anyways, didn't want to necessarily steer you away from Scubapro or Aqualung, but just wanted to make sure you knew that there were plenty of other quality regs out there that were potentially cheaper too...

Hay another VT diver. Welcome to the forum. As farasI know there are only two activedive shops in VT right now. Given your choice I am asuming you are working with Waterfront Dive center. They will not stear you wrong there no matter what direction you decide to go in. I just got my new Scuba Pro reg from them as a mater of fact. In the end I went with Scuba Pro for two reasons. One Iwanted to support my LDS as wedont have many and this one is 4 blocks frommy house. the scond was Scuba Pro's parts for life program. So long as I get my reg looked at once per year I never have to pay pro parts for it again! Idont know where you are in VT by send me a PM if you ever want to get out and dive! |

The water temp for our dive today was 32F. The vis about 30ft. Actually colder now that the ice is gone believe it or not. Just thought I'd throw that in here.
