Mares Prestige32 vs. Zeagle flathead 6

I am looking at these two regulators to upgrade my 7 year old Mares Rebel. I don't know much about either to be honest I am looking at them because they are on sale. Is anyone using either reg or maybe both that could offer some insight into airflow reliability and so on?

I LOVE my 2 flathead VIs. I would buy another in a heartbeat. I am not currently tech but that is my eventual plan. They breathe great. I have dove them to the 100' range several times without any issues whatsoever. Had them through 2 annual services and am due for number 3.

I am going to look into service options as well I know of 4 dive shops here in the Cincinnati area. Two service only scubapro I know one services Mares. Getting the regs serviced should play into my choice. Its a shame you can't try the gear out first.

Clernix, if you like the Zeagle line of regs, you'll find that Apeks regs pretty much mirror them. My LDS sells them in Cincinnati and I do all of the services. We also carry Atomic and Aqualung. Just a thought.....

Between Mares and Zeagle? No contest. Get the Zeagle. Zeagles are essentially clones of the Apeks, which are one of the best.

These kinds of empty statements make me laugh so hard... You probably have your own good reasons for this oppinion, but by not sharing them you 1- Don't help the poster at all... 2- Basically don't bring any credibility to the statement!

Sorry, not trying to be rude here. But I'm sure you could bring some good info to your post that would back your statements and also help out the original poster! He needs info... Not just buy this one... it's the one I have... It's the best...

Clernix, one of the reasons I love Mares regs so much is there is no need for a flow adjustment knob. When properly adjusted, they breathe flawlessly at any recreational depth. I have no knob to think about. That and in my case, I have an excellent Mares dealer nearby for service. I think ease of service for the brand you buy should be a consideration for you before you buy it.

I honnestly think you have two fine regs in your choices. I doubt you'll be disapointed with either!

Just my 0.02$

This would be the statement that makes me laugh. To be honest, I would agree that either reg would be a good choice, but the argument that the mares regs are "properly tuned" so they don't "need" an adjustment knob is silly. I can breathe my Flathead VI at any depth I have ever dove without adjusting the reg BUT the adjustment DOES come in handy in some situations. It's nice to be able to detune it when I want (like swimming in to a stiff current) or to be able to adjust it for even easier breathing when desired. To somehow say that the Mares wouldn't benefit from the same is simply wrong.

Here are my specific reasons for getting Zeagle over Mares:

1.) Zeagle uses standard hoses without any adapter needed
2.) My Zeagle features an adjustment knob
3.) My research indicates better customer support from the factory if needed
4.) Zeagle has a reputation as an excellent reg for technical diving which is the direction I desire to go in the future.

In my opinion, the zeagle is a better regulator. The zeagle got a perfect 20 in the breathing simulator while the mares got a 14. The zeagle has 4 lp ports and 2 hp ports. All standard sizes. The mares has (1) 1/2" lp port, (3) standard lp ports, and 2 hp ports. The zeagle is envirnmentally sealed while the mares is not. The mares can be sealed but it is packed with grease to accomplish this.

I dive with all zeagle regulators. I have (4) of them i have the rezort, envoy, ds 4 and the flathead 6. I have dove with a number of other regulators and i like the zeagles the best. As far as servicing your regs you can send them off to scuba toys, do it locally if you can find a shop that will do them, or do it yourself. I am starting to do them myself. The control knob is nice to have as you can fine tune the reg to your preferance anytime. Both of the regulators (mares and zeagle) have the pre-dive lever. If i get any more regs i will look at zeagle and possible the diverites. My buddies have those and are very happy with those. I know Dive rite has incredable customer service to boot. I have never dealt with either companies customer service so i can not comment on that. There is also a Zeagle representative right here on this forum and he will answer any questions that you ask him.

I failed to mention my Son dives with a DS-V and I have anothe DS-V that my daughter will use when she starts diving in the spring! We have never had a single issue with any of them.

I have had my Flathead VII to below 100' in 40 degree water and had no issue.
