Old certification, new diver

I first got certified about 35 years ago and then again 4 years ago, and amazingly I have never taken a dive. But hurray, I'm off to Little Cayman in January and ready to buy my first reg. I plan on doing mostly warm water diving, nothing technical, relatively shallow, and because we are ocean challenged here in Colorado, I will be traveling by air.

Anyway, I looked at regs (less than $500) ratings on "Scuba Diving," compared some great prices on ST, and came up with this list:

1. Mares Prestige 32--$279 at ST

2. Tusa RS-530--$369 at ST

3. Zeagle Flathead VI--$349 at ST, or Zeagle Envoy deluxe --$342 at ST

4. Cressi Sub-Ellipse black /MC5--243 at Scuba.com

5. Oceanic Neo--$399 at ST

After reading the forum, I'm leaning toward the Zeagle flathead, but any comments would be appreciated. I'm not interested in spending mega bucks, at least until I get some dives under my belt. Also any comments on the alternate? Thanks.

Welcome back to diving, love to hear stories like this. Let us know what reg you get, I'll be in the market in a month or two.

Thanks--I'll let you know. Do you have any ideas on these regs?

Welcome to the forum!

I would lean toward the Zeagles or the Tusa. If you plan on purchasing anything else call the shop and ask if they can put a package together for you.

Nope, I've only been diving for about 14 months. Use the antique reg I accidently bought on eBay.

Thanks for the information about the !0% discount. Many seem to like the Zeagle, but I can also talk to ST about options/package as you suggested.

Linda,
Of the regs you mention above, I would pick the Flathead VI, especially if the 10% member's discount comes off of the price you mention. It is a fine reg.

I am also very partial to the FH6. Can't go wrong with that reg under any conditions.

What kind of reg did you get?
I love old antique regs that work.

You can't go wrong with any of regs you listed. Just pick the one that appeals to you and get it.

I would lay more of preference toward the Oceanic.
