Mares R2 Reg
Hi everyone, I am looking to get my wife a reg for her setup. So that she can get back to diving once the baby is born (I'm try to get the purchases in while I still have scuba money
). She'll be looking to start diving again next summer. Were talking 80' probably max depth 44-42 degrees lowest temp. ST is selling the Mares R2 reg on closeout now. I do not want to get a cheap reg just to get a cheap reg, but the price is attractive. I was wondering if anyone here had experience with this reg? Thanks Bill |

Dont know anything about it, but I knwo that you dive an air integrated computer with your SPG still attached for redundancy so if she wants a AI computer with that 1st stage you will have to decide on if she is going to put the transmitter in or the SPG but not both because it only has 1 HP port. My guess would be that it would be fine for more shallow rec diving but I would be a little leary about performance down a little deeper, say in the 90ft range and below. Like I said though I have no personal experience with it so I do not know that for a fact. Hopefully someone will be able to better help out. The price is certianly attractive though.
Another thing to thing about would be servicing. Are there any shops around you that service Mares regs? If not you could send it back to ST for service but you have to make sure you take that into account once a year that it is going to be gone for a few days, or weeks. |

Hey Bill! I actually have this reg. Here is a link to my whole setup. I got to dive it for the first time on Sunday at the party. In my experience, it worked great! Granted I didn't take it past 27'. But it is the same reg that I used durring my OW cert with ST and I dove to 50' in about 60df water with the same setup. I didn't notice any problems. Of course I'm a very new diver with nothing to compare the reg to, but here is a post that Larry made about it a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, with my limited experience, I would recomend this setup and plus....ST wouldn't sell it if it was a bad one.
Good luck and congrats on the new baby!
