Question What do you cold water divers use ?.

Greetings from the UK.
Water temperature where i dive was around 53 degrees at 20m (60ft) in the summer and 44 degrees at 30ft back in February when I did my first open water dives. Now I know this isnt cold by some standards but out of interest what regulators do you US cold water divers use and recommend ?

Dry suits are probably preferred by most and in my opinion are more comfortable than say a thick heavy wetsuit but with the comfort of drysuits also comes the bucks. They are expensive but worth it if you are going to be doing alot of cold water diving.

OOps, sorry I guess I read that a little fast. Personally I have the aqualung Titan LX Supreme (cold water rated) for the second stage and the first stage is environmentally sealed which also helps to keep things from freezing. So far, so good, no problems yet. I have had it in 45F water.

I use an Atomic B2 that is environmentally sealed. I also use a modified vintage double hose regulator refered to as a Phoenix RAM. It's actually very nice in cold water, and both the 1st & 2nd stages are totally sealed.

For more information on the phoenix modification look here.

Zeagle Flathead VI. Been to 39 degrees at around 40 feet. Had it to well over 100' in the 40's several times and no problems.

Reg

I dive with Scubapro MK17's doubles.
Have used them for about a year now with out a problem.
Coldest I had them down to was 42 deg F. , They were fine at that temp., but I was not. I was diving in a 7 mm farmer john, and lasted at that depth for only 8 minutes .

I dive the great lakes in Michigan (cold water, routinely in the 30s-40s at depth) and use Poseidon regs. They are a popular choice in the area and have a good cold water reputation.
