it probably has some salt corrosion on it. IF you are mechanically inclined its easy to take off. Use a pair of Channel Lock (water pump pliers) to grip the DIN wheel -- then try to unscrew the adapter. DO NOT turn the regulator body. If it does not come free with just your hand, insert the handle of a screwdriver into the adapter and use it for leverage. Again turn only the adapter not the din wheel or the regulator.
IF you cant get it off bring it to a reputable dealer and they should be able to do it. If you get it off -- clean the DIN wheel threads with some vinegar on a soft cloth, then with some clean water on the cloth. DO not dip the regulator in the solution. Just take your time and clean it by hand. For the adapter just dip it in the vinegar for about 2-3 min then rinse off. Good luck
