Getting nitrox cert.

Im going to get nitrox cert in the spring an Im needing to buy a regulator set up. Im looking at a scubapro mk25/ s600 will this work with nitrox or will I have to have it comverted for it. If I have to have it converted will I still be able to run standard air through it.

I'll let some of the experts chime in -- but providing you are doing standard Nitrox mixes 32 or 36 (even up to EAN40), there is no need whatsoever to get new regs.

That's right... unless you're going to be using a nitrox mix with a higher percentage of oxygen (>40%) than the recreational nitrox class will train you for, you don't have to worry about it. Nice reg choice, BTW.

That said, if you ever do the conversion, it just involves replacing the lube and o-rings with O2 compatible materials. You can use air with it afterward provided that the air and tank have both been cleaned of hydrocarbons, otherwise, the reg may get contaminated with stuff that isn't O2 compatible. If you get your gas from a shop that does partial pressure blending, you should be fine.

Agree that the MK25 is a very nice reg.

Just make sure to get OCA (Oxygen Clean Air) if you have your reg and tanks cleaned for O2.

Yes, because if it isn't oxygen clean air they fill your tank with or that you use your Reg with, you'd need to have it all cleaned again!!$$$

But up to 40% Oxygen, you don't need special cleaning and you can switch back and forth from Nitrox to regular air as you wish. So don't worry about it.

If you're just getting Nitrox certified for the first time, you'll only be diving up to 40% Nitrox. In that case, any currently-made regs will be just fine with no additional changes needed.

If you continue your education to advanced Nitrox courses which train you in the use of mixes higher than 40%, then you will need to get your regs "oxygen cleaned", but you'll learn all about that in your class.

Meanwhile, no need for any concern, you have great regs that will work well for you for a long time to come.
