Good post. I want to know too. I get very confused with all the materials they use - zirconium, brass, s. steel, titanium... So I was told most regs are made of brass, and they seem to be fine if looked after, is it worth the fuss going for the premium metals?

Well, I'll give you my opinion. I love my Atomic. Yes, it's more than most other regs, but it breathes so good, and is totally dry even when you are on your back. Can you get a great reg for substantially less money? Sure you can. But I have never regretted buying my Atomic. I've had an Atomic since they 1st came out (mid 90's). My 1st 1 (Ti2) was stolen, and I replaced it with a B2. which is essentially the same regulator with a different name. If I still had my original Atomic, I'd never have bought the B2. It's the 1 piece of gear I didn't replace with something I thought was better.
I don't see any reason to buy the Titanium 1st stage (T2). It's the same thing as the B2, and performs the same. It just cost almost twice as much. Last edited by BSea : 12-04-2007 at 11:43 PM. |

This makes it very good for high O2. Up to 80% out of the box.</DIV> <DIV>I don't know much about the SS model other than it cost more than the B2 & less than the T2.</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>So to keep things simple. Look at the B2 or the Z2 unless you need the compatability with higher than recreational nitrox. Titanium reacts with O2, and that's why the others don't work well with nitrox beyond 40%.</DIV> |

Thanks BSea, that's what I'm hearing, no one has regrets. I think I will end up buying one because I feel I will eventually get it later. Why take an extra step right? I'm just nervous being new and not really knowing everything that's out there. I just keep hearing awesome things about Atomic, that's hard to overlook. |

Actually, I think a company makes custom hoses using a ball swivel like the Atomic. If I can find out, I'll let you know. Last edited by BSea : 12-04-2007 at 11:43 PM. |

They have all kinds of titanium extras. The regulator trim ring used to go for $100. That was a few years ago. Last edited by BSea : 12-04-2007 at 11:42 PM. |
