I just got my regulater out from the shop. And I would like 2 find out if I dive with a tank of Nitrox then surface and do a one hour SI then attach my regulater 2 an Air tank, will that work. Or does the regulater have 2 B O2 cleaned? And do I have 2 specify that B 4 I brought my reg. in the first time 2 B O2 cleaned?

Your regs do not need to be o2 clean unless you are breathing Nitrox mixes containing over 40% oxygen.
If you want your regs cleaned for o2 service, you have to specify that when you bring it in for service, and pay the extra fee. And once they are o2 clean, you can never use them on anything other than o2-clean gas and tanks, else they'll be contaminated and no longer o2 clean (although fine for general use). |

For recreational Nitrox mixes, meaning, 40% and under, the extra oxygen content is not high enough to warrant such an extreme cleaning, so there is no need to maintain your regs in an o2 clean state. Tanks are another story, since a common method of mixing Nitrox is to add pure oxygen to the tank and top it off with air to dilute to the percentage you want. Since the tank has pure o2 in it at one point, it must be treated carefully. The only thing that ever touches the recreational regulator, however, is the already-diluted 40% (or less) nitrox mix, so the danger is not there. |

I do not have my Nitrox in yet so please excuse my ignorance.
A Zeagle Envoy is suitable for use with mixes below 40% O2. However, the owners manual says the regulator must be kept "Oxygen Clean" and if it is used with air not certified as clean for enriched air use it must be cleaned again. What is the deal can you, can't you and/or should you not to? Also who has a regulator that can be used with greater than 40% 02? How does Triox fit into all this? (So many many questions. I will be taking classes for years! ) |
