Regulator swivels

I really like the idea of the swivels, because it seems it would be a lot more comfortable than the hose tugging at you all the time. Do they really make a difference? Are there any good ones on the market to retrofit most regs? I know I've heard of problems with some of them, and that's not a chance I want to take.

Be very very careful with which swivel you buy. I bought a couple of swivels a couple of years ago and had one blow out just before a deep dive (lucky I was on the surface). I spoke to another guy that blew @ 40m and had alot of fun and games.

After the event I found that there was a recall on the swivel I had.

Another option is a right angle bend. It doesnt swivel but it is one piece and has no o-rings to blow out. I think Mares makes them as do alot of other companies.

Another option would be a long hose (either 7' or 5') this would route in such a way as to make a swivel worthless and not introduce any potential failure points

I have one on my Mars Abyss and really like it. Never had a problem in five years and many many dives. Recently picked up a Apeks reg. Not sure if I am going to put one on it though. Seems comfortable diving without one but would not hesitate if I wanted to add it.

What brand is the swivel? The Abyss doesn't come with one does it?

I rank the swivel that same way as i do the bio filter. When I first started diving, I felt it was a good idea but the more I dove the less I felt I needed it.

I have one on my oceanic delta IV and to me it's definitely more comfortable than a non-swivel reg. Coupled with a seacure mouthpiece, i hardly notice my reg's position, and no jaw fatigue at all!

I don't know. It's been on there for years.

I think atomic has a universal swivel that I have seen in one of my LDS's but again I would caution you I have heard the swivel joint sometimes blows

I have the Atomic swivel hose on my Zeagle and it is really nice. The Atomic is very compact and very well built from what i can see. I have had it for a couple years and dove it well over 100 dives and it looks new. I have seen other brands swivels that looked bulky and possibly heavy. I'd be careful what you buy. Take a look at the Atomics, I think it's first class.
