My dives were made with Coconut Tree Divers, and if/when I return to Roatan, I'll dive with them again. Concerning lodging on my next trip, I'll probably stay at one of the rooms available at Coconut Tree Divers.
If you prefer an all-inclusive, many folks really like Cocoview (including my brother, who has made several trips and stayed with them each time). However, I have no personal experience with them, except that they seem a bit difficult to deal with on-line. I suggest taking a lot of whatever insect repellent that you prefer. I used 100% DEET (purchased at Wal-Mart before leaving home). I'd also suggest bringing a flashlight with spare batteries. In case of a power failure, candles and matches can be purchased locally (when I was there, it wasn't a matter of "if" the power would go out, but "when"). A good question for your dive op and hotel is, "Do you have a back-up generator?" A few more suggestions: 1 - Put toothbrushes, eating utensils and all food items where flying and crawling insects can't get to them. They leave behind droppings/germs that can make you ill. 2 - When buying fruit locally, watch for a few minutes before making your purchase so you can get an idea of what the locals are paying. 3 - Bring pills for upset stomach, and pills for diarrhea. 4 - Expect a hot, uncomfortable and chaotic time at the airport. When departing, be prepared to pay $33.19, even if everyone is saying that the departure tax is $32.00. 5 - Expect some of the most beautiful and diverse diving you've ever done. My trip report is located here: David "Rainmaker" Mauldin's Scuba Trip Reports . Hope this helps. Last edited by rainmaker : 03-29-2008 at 05:38 PM. |
