Once again, another mighty predator falls...

FOXNews.com - Florida Fisherman Nails Himself Enormous, 1,000-Pound Hammerhead - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

Very sad, even though I know some will disagree.

not sure why this is so terrible.... it's not like he caught it, cut its fin off and threw it back in...

He was just fishing... what did he do that was so wrong?

Is it that he was fishing that is wrong? or the fact that he caught a shark that was wrong? or the fact that he caught a HUGE shark wrong? just curious....

The guy says he never intended to kill the shark but just wanted to get its picture (after he hooked it), but it died. Looks like from the article he even donated the organs to a science facility for research.

I mean no one seems to get upset when someone catches a giant Tuna and cuts it up for sushi.

Just a different point of view...

I don't think you should catch anything unless you're going to eat it

But by and large that seems to be just me

It is sad to see a beautiful, big fish like this fall. Not terrible, just sad. Bret Farve retired today. A football great. It was sad, not terrible. See what I'm saying? I would have preferred this 13 foot, 1000 pound Hammerhead continue to grow and swim and make little sharks (as they are being depleted).

I'm sure the guy doesn't exactly feel that great about it. Such is life...It is what it is...you know the routine...blah blah blah

The biggest problem is that at the rate we are killing sharks there will be none to look at in a few years. If you talk to the divers going to the traditional places to see schooling hammerheads they are decreasing in numbers. So we keep doing things like that (killing hammerheads) there will be none left to see on our dives.

They're about to go on the endangered list pretty soon.

should have just taken a picture in the water unhooked him and let him go. That would have been the best thing to do it. Now if the shark died on the way up or in the fight he did the right thing by donating its parts.

FYI, the OP never said the fisherman did anything "Wrong". All he said is that this is very sad, which IMHO, it is. It is sad to see something that has survived this long die... it is always sad for me to see sharks die, no matter what species they are.
