Humpback Whale swam under our dive Boat

When my wife and I were going out for our OW check out dive in Destin FL., we were on the Sea Cobra owned by Scubs Tech in Destin. On the way out a Humpback Whale swam under the boat and played around us for about 1 hour. Long time Owner and Boat Captain said it was her first. Someone had a camera and took pictures which made the local Deston paper and may be in the Pensicola paper too. This was on May 25, 2008.

Good for you!. I've watched a documentary (from somewhere far east) where people go on trips to swim with them. I'm surprised noone jumped in :-) . Now that I think about it, I probably wouldnt either :-)

some times we can get spoiled by seeing a cool experience on one of our first dives, then all others are a small let down, but glad you enjoyed it, now you will get hooked like the rest of us

What an awesome experience! Especially on your OW dives. You'll be a bit spoiled, I'm sure.

Don't you see many Humpbacks in the states????

We are at the start of the Humpback season here and we have lots of whales moving north to breed. It is a common sight around here this time of year.

Couple of years ago we had a group of intro divers met face to face with a humpback calf. They werent even certified and their first dive was with a Humpback!!!!

I always seem to miss them. Skipper keeps on asking if I saw them underwater as they must have been right above me. I hear them all the time in winter. I brief my divers that if I cup my hands around my ears it means stop and listen for whales.

Hopefully I might get a pic of them underwater this year but I am not holding my breath. They let you dive with the Humpbacks in Tonga in the south pacific. We have a code of conduct placed upon us with whales. So we cant drop divers off infront of oncoming whales like they do in Tonga.
