I don't necessarily think they staged it, but I do think their behavior was rather odd, and filing lawsuits and selling their story to the media immediately afterwards seemed like a rather odd reaction.

They could see the boat when they came up but made no effort to move towards it. It sounded from the interview like a couple of other guys even went back in and did another dive. That whole time you don't even make an effort to get to the boat? I understand if they were doing hard core deco dives where added exertion after the dive could increase the risk of DCS, but nothing indicatates that this was the case here.

And,according to the Dateline story, the two young men who did the additional dive spent about five monutes in the water and fought a very strong current to get back to the boat.

Also from the story, it seemed as though it was the practice to surface and be picked up by the "yellow dinghy".

I think a lot more of the facts are not being shared. We will never know the "whole truth" on this one.

I had trouble watching it after the guy told Dateline that on a scale of 1 -10 as a diver he was a "10".

Oh palease. I missed that. If he is a 10, then it was staged.

I don't know what the real story is but you can't take the distance from the boat they were found and the time they were in the water and determine the current was such and such. Anyone with even moderate ocean experience knows the speed and direction of currents can change significantly from one dive to the next, even within a dive.
