OK I will start. HI389 Rig at the flower gardens National Marine Sanctuary. Mid Summer 60 ft. A Manta ray came close to the rig and when me and my DB went to go check it out he came rite in side the rig with us. He stayed for just a second and then flew off the same direction he came in. It was a cool site to see. Wish we had a camera.

I'm sure lots of people have much more impressive stories but my favorite so far was when a group of spotted eagle rays swooped in fairly close in front of me. I thought it was pretty amazing.

Assuming "coolest" means fun/interesting and not temperature..

My coolest dives were a few years ago in CZM. Island was a little slow, the morning boats had plenty of divers but on two of the afternoons it was just me and the DM. Just like diving with a really good friend who knows where all the cool stuff is!! Surface intervals were great too, just sitting under a palapa eating peanuts he brought.

And FWIW, the shop didn't charge anything extra, they could have very easily called off the boat but didn't.

Taking suggestions from MSilvia, aka Matt, is very often a good choice! If he offers his ideas or wisdom I highly recommend you take it!

as for coolest, well I only have 11 dives so far but for me its got to be the Horse Ferry in Lake Champlain.

For me it was diving the north of Cozumel. I think they were San Juan and Barracuda Reefs. The current was so swift I felt like superman and the marine life (large animals) were amazing.

P.S. There was also a wreck in Roatan where schools of large blue buck-toothed parrot fish descended on us and when we were heading to the wreck in a two by two formation a HUGE grouper joined our procession next to a diver without a partner, he just swam in line in front of me. That was awesome!!!!!!!

#1 Night dive in Roatan-followed an eel hunting and saw it stalk and kill two fish. The second one was a large parrotfish that the eel wrapped itself around and crushed then ate it-you could sense the vibrations as the bones crunched...it was so cool!

#2 (Non-feed) Shark dive in the Bahamas-spent and hour under water with a reef shark that seemed as interested in us as we were in him (see avatar). He kept circling around and buzzing by us-for the whole hour. Man, that was cool!

#1 dive was diving on the NW side of Tiburon the current was going through a reef that had some cool hole in it that were a lot of fun to shoot through-PIA to get back to the other side but fun to shoot. As I was gettig ready to head up, I was within 10' of a Blue Whale!!! laods of fun and way too cool for words.

Manta ray night dive in Kona, Hawaii. At least a dozen mantas swooping and dancing above your head. Amazing.
